Who We Are

Purine nucleosides and nucleotides (i.e. adenosine and ATP) act as signalling molecules in almost all body tissues where they regulate a wide set of cellular functions and intercellular communication mechanisms. A tight regulation of their activity is essential for health and an impairment of the activity of these molecules is observed under several pathological conditions.

The Purine Club is a nonprofit scientific society composed by scientists focusing their research activity on different aspects of purinergic signalling, receptors and enzymes, from structural and molecular biology/pharmacology function, physio- and pathological roles, generation of therapeutically relevant ligands and their application to human diseases.

The main purposes of the Purine Club are:

  • to organize workshops where Italian researchers can share their knowledge in the purinergic field and set up scientific collaborations;
  • to promote the dissemination of the latest discoveries on purinergic signalling, both within the scientific community and the social media;
  • to make scientific collaborations easier, by sharing research topics, materials, experimental tools and methods employed, and by favoring the training of young researchers, at both national and international level;
  • to support and organize national and international scientific meetings.

The Society is composed by Regular and Honour Members.

Regular Members are Senior Members (academic staff like professors and researchers) and Young Members (undergraduate and PhD students, Post-doc researchers). Honour Members are scientists that have had relevant scientific impact to the purinergic signalling field and/or researchers that have given a significant contribution to the growth and development of the Club.

Board

The Board is set through election by the Assembly of Members and it remains in charge for 3 years.
The Board duties are to develop the Club activities by promoting efforts aimed at achieving the Society targets.

How to register

The registration form as Regular Member must be filled, signed, and submitted to the Board together with a CV, a publication list, and further documents helping to highlight candidate’s activity in the purinergic field.

Regular Members are required to provide an annual registration fee, the amount of which has been previously set by the Assembly of Members.

For Young Members a reduced registration fee is set.
